Overview
Workflow natively supports a wide variety of file types, which you can add to tasks as creatives. This guide provides a comprehensive overview of all supported formats, how to upload them, and important details about file size limits and conversion behavior.
What you'll need
A Workflow account with a Creative Seat (required for uploading creative assets)
Your creative files ready for upload
Files must be 5GB or smaller
Compatibility
All creative format uploads are available across all Workflow plans. However, uploading creative assets requires a Creative Seat. If your trial has ended or you're on a free plan, you'll need to upgrade your plan to upload creatives.
File size limit: All uploaded files must be 5GB or smaller. Files exceeding this limit will be rejected with an error message.
Supported creative formats
Workflow natively supports a wide variety of file types, which you can add to tasks as creatives. Here's an overview of what's currently supported:
Images
All common image formats, like: JPEG, PNG, GIF, BMP, and more.
Fully supported formats:
JPEG (.jpg, .jpeg)
PNG (.png)
GIF (.gif)
BMP (.bmp)
WebP (.webp)
SVG (.svg)
TIFF (.tiff, .tif)
AVIF (.avif)
APNG (.apng)
ICO (.ico)
Best practice: For images that will be reviewed across different devices and browsers, use PNG or JPEG formats for maximum compatibility.
Videos
Common video formats like: MP4, AVI, MOV, among others.
Fully supported formats:
MP4 (.mp4)
WebM (.webm)
MOV (.mov)
AVI (.avi)
Video files are subject to the 5GB file size limit. For large videos, consider compressing them before upload to ensure faster processing and better playback performance.
For detailed instructions on uploading video files, see How to Upload Video Files.
Presentations
Common formats like PowerPoint, Google Slides, PDF, and other common presentation formats.
Supported formats:
PowerPoint (.ppt, .pptx)
Apple Keynote
OpenDocument Presentation (.odp)
PDF (.pdf)
Automatic conversion: PowerPoint (.ppt, .pptx), Keynote, and OpenDocument Presentation (.odp) files are automatically converted to PDF for viewing within Workflow. Your original file remains unchanged.
Documents and Spreadsheets
In addition to presentations, Workflow supports common document and spreadsheet formats:
Documents:
Microsoft Word (.doc, .docx)
OpenDocument Text (.odt)
PDF (.pdf)
Spreadsheets:
Microsoft Excel (.xls, .xlsx)
OpenDocument Spreadsheet (.ods)
Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, and OpenDocument formats are automatically converted to PDF for viewing and commenting within Workflow.
Adobe Creative Suite Files
Work directly with your Adobe files:
Adobe Photoshop (.psd)
Adobe Illustrator (.ai)
Adobe InDesign
Pro tip: For the best Photoshop workflow, use the Photoshop integration to sync work directly from Photoshop to Workflow with automatic comment synchronization.
Photoshop and Illustrator files are automatically converted to PDF for viewing within Workflow.
Figma Files
Use the Figma plugin to upload specific Figma frames directly into Workflow.
Instead of manually uploading Figma files, you can use the Figma plugin to export frames directly from Figma. This enables automatic comment synchronization between Workflow and Figma.
Learn more in our Figma integration guide.
Two-way sync: When you use the Figma plugin, comments you leave in Workflow automatically sync back to your Figma file, keeping your feedback in both places.
Live Websites
Embed live websites directly into Workflow, including support for interactive elements.
You can add any publicly accessible website URL to Workflow for review. Simply paste the website URL when adding content to a task, and Workflow will embed it with full interactivity.
What works:
Publicly accessible websites
Password-protected sites (reviewers will need the password)
Interactive elements like buttons, forms, and navigation
Responsive websites (reviewers can test different viewport sizes)
Some websites may have security restrictions (CORS policies) that prevent them from being embedded in iframes. If a website won't load in Workflow, check with the site owner about iframe embedding permissions.
For live websites: Any changes you publish to the site are shown immediately in Workflow. You don't need to upload new versions—the embedded site always reflects the current live version.
How to access the supported formats page
To view the full list of supported formats while creating a task:
Click Add task or press C to start a new task
Click creative asset to open the upload options
Click the Supported Formats button (with info icon) to see a detailed grid of all supported formats
The formats page displays categories including Website, PDF, Video, Photoshop, Illustrator, Image/GIF, Presentation, and Vector/SVG
File conversion behavior
Workflow automatically converts certain file types to PDF for optimal viewing and commenting. This ensures consistent playback across all devices and browsers without requiring reviewers to have specialized software.
Formats that are automatically converted to PDF:
PowerPoint presentations (.ppt, .pptx)
Word documents (.doc, .docx)
Excel spreadsheets (.xls, .xlsx)
OpenDocument formats (.odp, .ods, .odt)
Adobe Illustrator (.ai)
Adobe Photoshop (.psd)
Conversion happens automatically during upload. Your original file is not modified—Workflow creates a PDF version for viewing while preserving your source file.
Troubleshooting
Symptom | Likely Cause | Resolution |
|---|---|---|
"File type not supported" error | The file format is not currently supported by Workflow | Check the supported formats list. If you believe this format should be supported, contact [email protected] to request it be added. |
"File size exceeds 5GB limit" error | Your file is larger than the maximum allowed size | Compress your file using compression tools appropriate for your file type (video compressors for videos, image optimizers for images), then re-upload. |
"Conversion failed" error | The automatic PDF conversion process encountered an error | Verify that your original file isn't corrupted by opening it locally. Try re-uploading the file. If the error persists, contact support with details about the file type and size. |
Upload stalls or shows no progress | Network connectivity issue or large file size | Check your internet connection. For very large files, wait a few minutes as upload may take time. If it remains stuck, refresh the page and try again. |
Website won't embed in Workflow | The website has security restrictions preventing iframe embedding | Contact the website administrator to allow iframe embedding. Alternatively, take screenshots or screen recordings of the website for review instead. |
"File type unknown not supported" error | File has an unrecognized or missing file extension | Ensure your file has the correct extension (e.g., .jpg, .pdf, .mp4). If the extension is correct but still not recognized, contact [email protected]. |
Limitations
Maximum file size: 5GB per file for all formats
Conversion required: Some formats are automatically converted to PDF, which may not preserve animations, embedded videos, or advanced formatting
Website embedding: Sites with CORS restrictions or iframe blocking cannot be embedded
Text files: Direct text file uploads are marked as "coming soon" and are not currently supported
Creative Seat required: Only users with Creative Seats can upload creative assets; guest users and view-only members cannot upload files
Trial limitations: If your trial has ended, you cannot upload creative assets until you upgrade to a paid plan
