Troubleshooting

Mobile Browser Support and Limitations

Overview

Workflow has limited support for mobile browsers. While you can view and read comments on mobile devices, you cannot view creative work like websites, images, videos, or Figma files on most mobile browsers.

Workflow works on all modern desktop browsers, including Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and Safari.

Here's what works and what doesn't on mobile devices.

What works on mobile browsers

Mobile browsers support limited functionality in Workflow:

Comment viewing

You can view and read all comments left by team members and reviewers on mobile devices. The sidebar displays:

  • Comment threads with replies

  • Comment text and attachments

  • Commenter names and timestamps

  • Resolved and unresolved comments

Video recording (limited)

Some mobile browsers support video recording functionality:

  • Safari on iOS/iPadOS: Version 14.5 and higher

  • Chrome for Android: Latest versions

  • Samsung Internet: Version 5 and higher

Video recording on mobile has stricter limitations than desktop. Keep recordings under 15 minutes for best results due to browser memory constraints.

What doesn't work on mobile browsers

Viewing creative work (iOS)

iOS mobile browsers cannot view creative work including:

  • Live websites

  • Images and designs

  • Videos

  • Figma files

  • Photoshop files

  • PDFs and presentations

When you try to view creative work on iOS mobile browsers (iPhone or iPad), you'll see:

"Websites are not supported on iOS mobile devices. Open the sidebar to view comments and details."

Viewing live websites (Android)

While Android browsers have better support than iOS, live website viewing on Android mobile browsers is not officially supported. You may experience:

  • Layout issues or incorrect rendering

  • Interactive elements not working properly

  • Performance problems on complex sites

Best practice: Always review creative work on desktop browsers for the most accurate and reliable experience, regardless of whether you're using iOS or Android.

If you receive a notification about new work or comments while on mobile:

  1. Open the link on mobile to quickly read comments and context

  2. Switch to desktop when you need to view the creative work itself

  3. Leave your feedback from desktop where you can see the full work

Mobile access is designed for staying informed and keeping up with conversations, not for conducting full creative reviews.

Browser recommendations

For viewing and reviewing creative work

Use desktop versions of:

  • Chrome: Version 49 and higher

  • Firefox: Version 29 and higher

  • Edge: Version 79 and higher

  • Safari: Version 14.1 and higher (macOS)

For quick comment viewing on mobile

Any modern mobile browser works for viewing comments:

  • Safari (iOS/iPadOS)

  • Chrome (Android/iOS)

  • Samsung Internet (Android)

  • Firefox (Android/iOS)

Troubleshooting

Symptom

Likely Cause

Resolution

"Websites are not supported on iOS mobile devices" error

You're trying to view creative work on an iOS mobile browser

Switch to a desktop browser to view the work. You can still view comments in the sidebar on mobile.

Creative work won't load on Android mobile

Mobile browsers have limited support for creative work viewing

Switch to a desktop browser for the best experience. Mobile viewing is not officially supported.

Sidebar shows "Comments" but canvas is blank on mobile

This is expected behavior on iOS mobile browsers

Read comments in the sidebar on mobile, then switch to desktop to view the creative work when you're ready to review.

Can't leave comments on creative work from mobile

You can't see the creative work to place comments accurately

Switch to desktop to view the work and leave positioned comments. You can leave sidebar messages from mobile.

Video recording fails on mobile after a few minutes

Mobile browsers have memory constraints that limit recording length

Keep mobile recordings under 15 minutes. For longer feedback, use a desktop browser or split into multiple recordings.

Limitations

  • No creative work viewing on iOS mobile: iPhone and iPad browsers cannot display websites, images, videos, or any creative assets

  • Limited Android support: Android mobile browsers may load creative work but this is not officially supported and may have issues

  • Tablet devices affected: iPads and Android tablets have the same limitations as phones when using mobile browsers

  • No workaround available: iOS browser restrictions cannot be bypassed; desktop browsers are the only solution

  • Comments remain accessible: You can always view comments on mobile, regardless of device or browser

Why desktop is required

Workflow uses iframes and advanced browser features to display creative work accurately and enable precise commenting. Mobile browsers, especially on iOS, have strict security policies and resource limitations that prevent these features from working reliably.

Desktop browsers provide:

  • Full iframe support for embedding websites

  • Better performance for rendering large images and videos

  • Accurate viewport sizing for responsive design testing

  • Stable memory allocation for long review sessions

Mobile notifications work perfectly: You'll still receive email notifications about new comments and versions on mobile. Click the links to read comments quickly, then review the actual work when you're back at your desktop.
